Call for Papers - Misplaced Democracy (2nd Edition)

Launched in 2014, “Misplaced Democracy: Malaysian Politics and People” edited by Sophie Lemière (EUI-RSCAS-MED) has made an important contribution to the study of Malaysian politics and society. Published in the wake of the 13th General Election it spoke not only to researchers and scholars of Malaysia but also to activists and others interested to understand the wider dynamics at work during that period.Yet with all of the developments since 2014 SIRD is now looking to release an updated and revised edition which can speak to Malaysia’s current political situation, trace the developments from the release of Misplaced Democracy to the present and contribute research to overlooked areas of Malaysian politics and society. Our aim will be to publish in Malaysia with the Strategic Information and Research Development Centre and internationally with a reputable university publisher.

In particular we are looking for contributions in the following areas:

· Malaysian Media

· Social and Health Policy

· Education Policy

· Failures and successes of Malaysian Democratization in a historical perspective

· LGBT rights

· Economic Crisis and Stagnation

· Malaysian Arts

· International Relations

· Environmental issues

· Constitutional History

· Malaysian Indigenous and ethnic minorities in general

· Tourism, Agriculture and Land Policies
