Intensive Doctoral week (Law)

Published on 15 February 2021 par Institut du genre

The Intensive Doctoral Week (IDW) is a co-organized initiative led by Sciences Po Law School and Law and Political Science Doctoral School of Paris Ouest Nanterre La Défense University (fr.) as well as a great number of partners in the world.

For its 10th edition, the Intensive Doctoral Week (IDW) reinvents itself. The 2021 IDW will take place online on its 3 new distinct platforms. Besides its traditional writing workshops (ID Writing), the IDW will include a new online channel fully dedicated to legal research (ID Tube). Indeed, starting on 14th June 2021, ID Tube will broadcast 5 days of TV shows and short movies on a whole range of topics related to law, legal and interdisciplinary research, legal practice, legal literature, teaching, law and society, etc. It will also offer meeting rooms (ID Lounge) where junior researchers and established academics from all over the globe will be able to react to the broadcasted movies as well as meet and discuss legal research. The organization committee invites all interested participants, whether PhD researchers, early career academics, or senior scholars to contribute to one of the platforms of the IDW 2021.

Interested participants can submit the following projects for the IDW 2021:

  • A short description of a short movie which they would like to produce with a view to having it broadcasted on ID Tube. Broadcasted short movies can include (but should not be limited to) interviews, fictions, talk shows, documentaries, moments of life, commented movies excerpts, comments on pieces of art, commented museums visits, etc. Descriptions of short movies should be no longer than 2 pages and include a description of the audiovisual content, its relevance for law and legal research, and some of the expected takeaways (option for PhD researchers, early career academics, and senior scholars).
  • A written outline of their PhD project to be subsequently presented in a pre-recorded short movie on ID Writing. Originality of the presentation is expected. The outline should be no longer than 3 pages excluding CV but including indications as to the envisaged content and format of the short movie. The most original pre-recorded presentations of PhD projects will also be broadcasted on ID Tube (option for PhD researchers only).
  • A written outline of their PhD project to be discussed in one of the writing workshops. The outline should be no longer than 2 pages excluding CV (option for PhD researchers only).

If accepted, projects of short movies will need to be realized in accordance with the guidelines and the format provided by the organizers. The organization committee will provide templates and technical support for the editing and formatting of the short movies that have been accepted.

The two working languages are French and English. Applications will be examined and selected by an independent committee of experts. To apply and submit your project description, fill in the online application. The deadline for application is 1 March 2021. Successful applicants will be informed by 15 March 2021. Short movies will have to be submitted by 1 May 2021. Early submission of short movies is highly encouraged.
