University Lecturer in Gender Studies, University of Cambridge

The University of Cambridge wishes to appoint a suitably qualified scholar to the post of University Lecturer in Gender Studies and Deputy Director of the University of Cambridge Centre for Gender Studies (UCCGS), a multi-disciplinary centre which is located in the Department of Geography. The appointment will be made from 1 September 2013, or as soon as possible thereafter. This is a permanent position subject to a probationary period.

Applicants will be expected to have a strong background in gender-related theory and methods. They should have a PhD and should have researched, published and taught on gender-related issues. UCCGS is a multi-disciplinary centre and the post-holder may be from any relevant discipline.

The successful candidate will work with the Frankopan Director of UCCGS (Dr Jude Browne) in all of the Centre’s functions, including high quality research and publishing ; administrative and admissions duties ; organization of public academic events ; and teaching and examining within the Multi-disciplinary Gender Studies MPhil and PhD programmes. They will be expected to contribute to relevant aspects of the undergraduate programme in Geography (the Geographical Tripos) and, as appropriate, to examining, fieldwork and departmental administration. The post-holder will also work with the UCCGS Director and the Centre’s External Development Committee to fund-raise for the Centre’s activities. S/he should be able and willing to build on the successes of the Cambridge centre as an international multi-disciplinary centre of excellence.
