Job Description
FASoS is seeking an assistant professor with demonstrated excellence in teaching and research in the field of gender and religion.

Research is carried out within the context of the Research Institute for Arts and Social Sciences and, in particular, relating to the interdisciplinary research programme Arts, Media and Culture. S/He is expected to develop international research projects and to attract external funding.

S/He will contribute to the teaching and coordination of courses and supervision of internships, projects and theses in the BA and MA programmes Arts and Culture and European Studies of the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences and in the BA programme of the University College Maastricht. The division of teaching and research duties follows the regular division used at the Faculty of 60% teaching and management and 40% research. The research time can be extended through external fundraising.

Requirements
The candidate will have a PhD degree in a relevant humanities discipline (history, cultural studies, religion studies, literary studies, gender studies) or anthropology, with a focus on gender and religion, preferably on gender and islam. Fluency in English is a prerequisite, while non-Dutch speaking applicants should be willing to learn Dutch within two years. Fluency in Dutch is an asset, with a view to knowledge valorization. We are looking for a colleague with a demonstrable interest in collaborative teaching and research.

The candidate displays outstanding quality in research and is open to an interdisciplinary approach. S/He has a relevant international network and a track record or potential for grant acquisition. International peer reviewed academic publications are imperative.
The candidate is an experienced and enthusiastic teacher and has demonstrated ability in thesis supervision and teaching coordination roles. Experience with course development is an asset. The candidate is able to stimulate student learning and to maximize student participation in our system of small-scale problem based learning (PBL). Experience with teaching international classrooms is preferable.
The candidate is expected to be a team player. S/He has an open, effective management style and is ready to fulfil an administrative role in the faculty.
