The IdG - Gender Institute is a Scientific Interest Group (GIS) founded in 2012 by the Institute for Humanities and Social Sciences of the French National Centre for Scientific Research (CNRS) and bringing together 34 partner institutions.
The Institute is hosted by and works together with the Maison des Sciences de l’Homme Paris North.
Composed of Joint Research Units (UMR), as well as research teams with an explicit focus on gender, the Institute represents a key reference in the coordination and scholarly reception of French research on gender and sexuality.
The IdG - Gender Institute has the following missions :
- To contribute to the scientific recognition of gender research in France and expand its geographical scope.
- To increase the international visibility of French research in this field through a variety of support actions.
- To encourage the emergence of new forms of scientific collaboration, including with foreign partners.
- To promote interdisciplinary and cross-disciplinary research in multiple areas, both in the field of humanities and social studies and between this and other scientific fields.
