The main objective of RUSEMEG is to develop the Euro-Mediterranean Gender and Women Academic and Scientific Network (Réseau Universitaire et Scientifique Euro-Méditerranéen sur le Genre et les femmes, RUSEMEG).
It aims to develop the academic knowledge on gender and women in the Euro-Mediterranean region and expand it to other countries of the Union for the Mediterranean by creating joint research programmes.
RUSEMEG identifies researchers and academics who work on gender issues in the Euro-Mediterranean region. It produces scientific knowledge and fosters the development of gender studies. It promotes the work on gender produced in the Euro-Mediterranean region and organises interdisciplinary and inter-regional research. It helps young researchers by launching calls for projects.
The Academic and Scientific Network meets the needs of exchanging and comparing research findings on gender in the Euro-Mediterranean area. It provides theoretical and scientific foundations to field research and public policy research aimed at gender equality. It responds to the need of researchers working in the field of gender to discuss their methods, concepts and approaches. It also helps young researchers in the field.
It is a well known fact that the knowledge about women’s needs, the inequalities affecting them and their abilities remains painfully lacking. These needs have been highlighted by the OECD, UNDP, the European Commission and UN Women.
